প্রেত [ prēta ] n an evil spirit, a goblin, a ghoul; a ghost; the spirit or ghost of a dead per son. ~কর্ম, ~কার্য, ~কৃত্য, ~ক্রিয়া n. funeral rites; obsequial rites. ~তত্ত্ব n. spiritism, spiritualism. ~তত্ত্ববিদ n. a spiritist, a spiritualist. ~তর্পণ n. offering of water to the spirit of a deceased person. ~দেহ n. a ghost (of a dead per son), an apparition. ~নদী n. (myth.) the river Baitarini (বৈতরণী) which the soul of the dead has to cross, (cp.) the Styx. ~পক্ষ n. the dark lunar fortnight ending with the Mahalaya (মহালয়া). ~পিন্ড n. lump of food offered to the spirit of a deceased person. ~ভূমি n. a burial ground, a cremation ground. ~পুরী n. the abode of the dead, the spirit-world, (cp.) Hades. ~মূর্তি n. a ghost, an apparition. ~যোনি n. an evil spirit, a goblin, a ghoul. ~লোক same as েতপুরী । প্রতাত্মা n. the soul or spirit of a dead person, a ghost, a spirit. েতাশৌচ n. impurity of one's body caused by carrying a dead person. েতিনী n. fem. a female evil spirit, a female goblin or ghoul.

প্রেত [ prēta ] বি. ভূত, অশরীরী; মৃতের আত্মা। [সং. প্র + √ ই + ত]। ~কর্ম, ~কার্য, ~কৃত্য, ~ক্রিয়া বি. মৃতের দাহন ইত্যাদি অন্ত্যেষ্টিক্রিয়া। ~তর্পণ বি. মৃতের তৃপ্তির জন্য জলদান। ~দেহ বি. মৃত্যুর পরে জীবের সূক্ষ্ম দেহ। ~নদী বি. বৈতরণী। ~পক্ষ বি. চান্দ্র আশ্বিনের কৃষ্ণপক্ষ-এই পক্ষে পরলোকগত পিতৃগণের তর্পণ করতে হয়। ~পিণ়্ড বি. মৃতের উদ্দেশে পিণ্ডজল। ~পুরী, ~লোক, বি. যমালয়, নরক। ~মূর্তি বি. প্রেতের আকৃতি বা প্রেতের মতো আকৃতি। ~যোনি বি. ভূত, পিশাচ। প্রেতাত্মা (-ত্মন্) বি. 1 মৃতের আত্মা; 2 ভূত। প্রেতাধিপ বি. যমরাজ। প্রেতাশৌচ বি. শবদাহজনিত অশৌচ। প্রেতিনী বি. (স্ত্রী.) (বাং.) পেতনি।
